President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky and President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan discussed facilitating the release of Crimean Tatar political prisoners held by Russia.

During a phone call on Sunday, the interlocutors discussed bilateral relations and several regional issues.

"I thanked Recep Tayyip Erdogan for the solidarity of Turkey with the Ukrainian people, support for Ukraine's sovereignty and integrity. I asked the President of Turkey to facilitate the release of more than 100 Crimean Tatars illegally detained by Russia," Zelensky wrote on Twitter.

Erdogan confirmed that Turkey would continue to develop its strategic cooperation with Ukraine in all spheres - including security, defence, tourism and trade, Communications Directorate of Turkey reported.

Congratulating his counterpart on the 30th anniversary of Ukraine's independence, Erdogan also thanked Zelensky for the “immediate and comprehensive support” by Kyiv in Turkey’s fight against the recent forest fires.
