Russia puts pressure on countries that openly declare their participation in the international Crimean Platform Summit.

Moscow intimidates such countries with its diplomats and special services of the Russian Federation, Spokesperson of the President of Ukraine Serhiy Nykyforov said at a briefing when asked about the foreign leaders who confirmed their participation in the Crimean Platform for sure and who are still making up their mind.

“It should be understood that any country that confirms its 100% participation in the Crimean Platform is immediately put under pressure by diplomats and, perhaps, the special services of the Russian Federation. It is a question of how the country can resist this pressure. For some, it is bearable, for others, it is not," Nykyforov said.

Therefore, according to the spokesperson, some keep their participation in the Crimean Platform secret, some boldly declare it immediately.

"In any case, the Crimean Platform is coming forward and we will find out which countries will participate and at what level,” he added.

Earlier, President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that 29 countries had already confirmed their participation in the Crimean Platform summit in Kyiv on August 23.

Crimean Platform

The Crimean Platform is a new consultative and coordination format initiated by Ukraine to improve the international response to the occupation of Crimea and growing security challenges.

The Platform aims to increase international pressure on Russia, prevent further human rights violations, protect victims of the occupation regime, and achieve the goal of de-occupation of Crimea and its return to Ukraine.

The Crimean Platform will operate at several levels: The first is the highest political level, which will be joined by foreign heads of state and government. The second is the level of heads of foreign policy departments and defence ministers; the third is the inter-parliamentary level; the fourth is the level of non-governmental experts.

The activities of the Crimean Platform will be officially launched at the inaugural summit which is planned to be held in Kyiv in August 23, 2021.
