On the morning of February 6, a strong earthquake occurred in the Pazarcık region of the Kahramanmaraş province in southeastern Turkey. According to the latest data, as a result of the 7.4-magnitude earthquake, 284 people died in ten provinces of Turkey, and at least 2,323 people were injured.
This was reported in the Office for the Prevention and Liquidation of Consequences of Emergency Situations (AFAD), Anadolu reports.
The agency noted that the earthquake occurred on Monday morning at 04:17 local time. After the earthquake, 42 aftershocks were recorded. The magnitude of the strongest was 6.6.
Tremors were felt in nearby provinces, including Hatay, Osmaniye, Adıyaman, Gaziantep, Şanlıurfa, Diyarbakır, Malatya, and Adana.
The highest level of alarm has been declared in Turkey. The government asked for international help.
The General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces sent two planes to the disaster area to transport rescue teams.
It is also noted that the devastating earthquake in Turkey was also felt in neighboring countries, in particular, Syria, Lebanon, Cyprus, and Iraq.
"According to the latest data, at least a hundred people have died in the Syrian provinces of Idlib, Aleppo, Hama, Latakia, and Raqqa, and the search for hundreds continues", the message says.
