During the period of temporary occupation, more than 500,000 citizens of the Russian Federation illegally moved to the territory of Crimea.
This was reported by the Representative of the President of Ukraine in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea Tamila Tasheva in a column for "Ukrayinska Pravda" Decolonization of occupied Crimea: why it is a security issue and a guarantee of non-repetition of Russian aggression.
"This became a real demographic crisis, because the colonization of the Ukrainian peninsula by the Russians took place in parallel with the forced resettlement, persecution, and imprisonment of Ukrainians disloyal to Russia and its occupation administrations and representatives of the Crimean Tatar and other indigenous peoples", Tasheva emphasized.
She noted that according to general data, about 100,000 citizens of Ukraine were forced to leave the peninsula.
"After the de-occupation of Crimea, one of the primary challenges for the Ukrainian government will be to resolve the fate of Russian citizens who have been illegally staying in occupied Crimean peninsula all this time. As a matter of fact, this issue has already been raised several times and is one of the most pressing ones", said the Permanent Representative of the President.
