Hungary has
continued to block new sanctions against Russia over its unwillingness to give
up Russian oil. This was reported by Bloomberg.
A meeting
of EU ambassadors to discuss a new package of sanctions against Russia took
place on May 8. During the talks, European officials failed to reach a
consensus on imposing new restrictions on the aggressor country. The main
controversial point was the embargo on Russian oil.
Hungary, the Czech Republic, and Slovakia have been offered a postponement of sanctions until 2024. But even such a compromise failed to persuade Hungarian officials to support a ban on oil imports from Russia. Hungary has continued to block.
