The jurisdiction of the Special International Criminal Tribunal for Russia's aggression against Ukraine should extend to the aggression that began in February 2014 in Crimea. At the same time, everyone involved, including the top leadership of the terrorists, should be tried.
The corresponding resolution was approved by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), reports Ukrinform.
One hundred deputies supported the resolution and one abstained.
It stipulates that the heads of states and governments of the Council of Europe countries at their 4th summit in Reykjavik, Iceland in May 2023 should provide political support for the creation of a special tribunal on the crime of aggression by the Russian Federation against Ukraine, as well as ensure the process of its creation.
The resolution states the need for accountability for crimes committed since February 2014, when the Russians began the process of seizing Crimea. In addition, the leadership of Belarus, whose territory the Kremlin used to launch aggression against Ukraine, should also be punished.
It is indicated that the location of the future special tribunal regarding the crime of aggression against Ukraine should be determined in The Hague "in order to ensure complementarity and cooperation with the ICC and other international courts and institutions".
