Polish President Andrzej Duda has said that his country is ready to become a guarantor of Ukraine's security after the end of the war. He said this in an interview with CNN host Farid Zakaria, which was broadcast on Sunday evening, May 29.
"If Ukraine asks us to be its guarantor of security and guarantor of peace when the war is over, if such conditions for peace are approved, then yes, Poland will take part in it", Duda said.
In his
opinion, Kyiv's desire to obtain international security guarantees in the event
that it cannot join the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) is natural.
Duda ruled out the possibility of reaching a peace agreement with Russia without Ukraine's participation:
"We cannot accept the fact that in a free and democratic world, any agreement that should end this war will be concluded without Ukraine's participation and without Ukraine's consent. If this war ends, it must end on the terms that Ukraine will agree to, sitting at the negotiating table".
