Russia's adviser to the UN in Geneva, Boris Bondarev, spoke out against Russia's actions in Ukraine and quit just after that.

He accompanied his dismissal with a separate statement, saying that he had never been so ashamed of his country, the Russian media reports.

According to Bondarev, in his 20-year career as a diplomat, he has seen Russia's various foreign policies, but now the foreign minister is not even involved in diplomacy. He called Russia's actions against the Ukrainian and Russian people to be a crime.

"After all, the letter Z dashed all hopes of Russians for life in a prosperous and free society. Russia no longer has allies, and the country will increasingly degrade and isolate itself from the world," he noted.

He called Sergei Lavrov "an excellent example of system degradation". Bondarev also called on other Russian diplomats at the UN and around the world to resign.

The diplomat's letter was published by UN international lawyer Hillel Neuer.
