The European Union (EU) will do everything possible to support Ukraine in its fight against Russian aggression and will take additional measures against countries that support Russia in its war against Ukraine, including sanctions against Belarus and Iran.
The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, stated this at a press conference in Brussels following the signing of the EU-NATO Declaration, Ukrinform cites.
"We will continue to put pressure on Kremlin as long as necessary, with painful sanctions. We will extend these sanctions to those who militarily support the Russian war, to countries such as Belarus or Iran. We will move forward with new sanctions against Belarus for its role in Russia's war against Ukraine. At the same time, we will continue to provide substantial humanitarian, economic, and security assistance to Ukraine for as long as necessary", she said.
The official stressed that the EU will continue to pay more attention to its own security and develop its own defense capabilities, focusing on the priorities of the adopted Strategic Compass of the EU. That is why she pointed to the need to increase defense production and increase the level of interaction with defense industry enterprises to renew stocks of military equipment.
