The United
Nations Human Rights Council has voted in favor of tighter monitoring of the
human rights abuses in Ukraine as a result of a full-scale Russian invasion. This
was announced on Twitter.
The UN
Human Rights Council stressed that tighter controls are needed in light of what
the Russian military is doing in Mariupol and several other Ukrainian cities.
The
initiative to set up a special commission of inquiry to investigate Russia's
war crimes has been supported by 33 countries.
Only two
voted against. These are China and Eritrea.
12
countries abstained: Cuba, Kazakhstan, India, Pakistan, Uzbekistan, Venezuela,
Armenia, Bolivia, Cameroon, Namibia, Senegal and Sudan.
