The former
commander of NATO's forces in Europe, General Wesley Clark, said the war
in Ukraine could not be stopped without the direct intervention of the
alliance. This was reported by DW.
According to him, the idea, which is now advocated by NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg, is supported by members of the alliance. The bottom line is that NATO may not actively intervene if it is not directly attacked. This is an idea from the 90s.
“It's time to learn the lessons. NATO must intervene. Let's officially acknowledge this and order the Russians to cease fire", Wesley Clark said, adding that the alliance must "go beyond the framework or cease its activities".
