Representatives of the Ukrainian and Turkish Air Forces together with the ASELSAN Corporation discussed joint air traffic data exchange system under NATO’s Air Situation Data Exchange (ASDE) programme.

"The main purpose of the event – to discuss technical aspects of the operation of the air traffic data exchange system under the NATO’s ASDE program and the possibility of organising data exchange between the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the Republic of Turkey on a bilateral basis, including airspace monitoring," the press service of the Ukrainian Defence Ministry reported.

During the meeting, the parties agreed on possible mutual exchange of technical data for monitoring the airspace of exclusive economic zones, which will allow Ukraine to assess the situation in its own exclusive economic zone, preventing possible threats from the Russian Federation.

Aselsan, established in 1975 in order to meet the communication needs of the Turkish Armed Forces by national means, is the largest defence company of Turkey and among the top 100 defence firms in the world.

As reported, on October 16, 2020, following a meeting in Istanbul between Turkish and Ukrainian Presidents, Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Volodymyr Zelensky; number of documents were signed, in particular, a framework military agreement between Ukraine and Turkey.
