The Autonomous Republic of Crimea, which is part of Ukraine, was annexed in violation of international law and with the help of an illegal referendum held on this day (March 16) nine years ago.
This is stated in the statement of the Embassy of Turkey in Ukraine.
The embassy noted that on the occasion of the anniversary of the so-called referendum, Turkey confirms its support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.
The diplomatic corps added that the situation regarding the indigenous people of Crimea - the Crimean Tatars is a priority for Ankara and assured that Turkey will continue to provide support to the Crimean Tatar people so that they preserve their identity and live in safety and peace in their homeland in Crimea.
