The historic week begins when Ukraine hears the answer from the European Union regarding the candidate status for Ukraine. The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky
stated this in a video address. Ukraine already has a positive decision from the European Commission, and the European Council will respond later this week.
"I think it's obvious to everyone that there haven't been as many fateful decisions for Ukraine since 1991 as we expect now. And I am convinced that only a positive decision is in the interests of the whole of Europe", Zelensky said.
The President promised to use every opportunity to defend the European perspective for Ukraine. At the same time, he warned the partners about the possible increase in activity on the part of the Russian Federation.
"Obviously, Russia should be expected to increase hostile activity. On purpose. This week. And not only against Ukraine, but also against other European countries. We are getting ready. And we are ready. We warn our partners”, Zelensky stressed.
The head of state said that the occupiers were gathering forces in the Kharkiv direction, in the Zaporizhia region.
"Our fuel infrastructure has been shelled again – they want to worsen the fuel situation. Of course, we will respond to this as well”, the President said.
Fierce fighting continues in Donbas. The Russian army uses the most offensive forces there. But Severodonetsk, Lysychansk, Avdiivka, Krasnohorivka, and other hotspots remain.
"These are our defenders. Our army is holding on. And I am grateful to everyone whose strength today will bring us the victory tomorrow", the President stressed.
