70 Years in Prison: Show Trial of the «Dzhankoy Group» in the «Hizb ut-Tahrir» case

mainnews-id
The Russian prosecution is demanding a total of 71 years of imprisonment for five Crimean Tatars — defendants in the «first Dzhankoy group» in the «Hizb ut-Tahrir» case.

In Ukraine, this organization operates legally. On the mainland, its activists were engaged in civic activities: publishing a newspaper, organizing rallies, and participating in public debates.

Since the occupation of Crimea in 2014, the Russian Federation has systematically persecuted Crimean Tatars, including for their alleged ties to «Hizb ut-Tahrir». To date, more than 120 members of the Crimean Tatar community are behind bars on similar charges.

Human rights defenders believe that these criminal cases are not about combating terrorism, but rather about suppressing resistance, political dissent, and free thought.

Restoring justice for the Crimean Tatar people remains an integral part of the struggle for the de-occupation of Crimea and the return of the peninsula under Ukrainian control.
