The General Inspectorate of Education and Science of Portugal has launched an investigation into geography and history textbooks for 7th grade in which Crimea is presented as Russian territory.

This was reported by the head of the Union of Ukrainians in Portugal, Pavlo Sadokha.

According to him, the Portuguese Ministry of Education offers middle schools geography textbooks for students in their 7th year of study, in which the territory of the Crimean Peninsula is marked as belonging to Russia, not Ukraine.

«Moreover, the textbook claims that from the 9th to the 12th century, the territory of today’s Ukraine and Russia is described as a 'Russian principality,' which does not align with the Ukrainian historical scholarly position and reflects the Russian narrative that the Russian Federation uses to justify its aggression against Ukraine (in fact, the term 'Russia' was introduced by Moscow rulers only in the 18th century. Before that, the territory of present-day Russia was known as the «Tsardom of Moscow»)», - Pavlo Sadokha wrote.
